There’s been too many tears shed to count in Devonport over the past couple of weeks, as residents of the Tasmanian seaside city continue to reel from the jumping castle tragedy that has claimed six young lives. An end-of-year celebration at Hillcrest Primary School on December 16 turned fatal when a freak gust of wind picked up a jumping castle that nine children were playing on and sent it flying through the air. The terrified Year 5 and 6 pupils fell from a height of around 10 metres. The deceased have been identified as Addison Stewart and Chace Harrison, both 11, Jye Sheehan, Zane Mellor, Jalailah Jayne-Maree Jones and Peter Dodt, all aged 12. A DARING BREAK FOR IT After eight years of imprisonment by her captor Wolfgang Priklopil, Natascha Kampusch managed a daring escape. Taken as a 10-year-old, Natascha was kept in a soundproof, windowless room under Priklopil’s garage. It was only in August 2006, she saw a way out. Line base and sides with baking paper, extending paper 4cm above pan edges. 2 Reserve 2 tblsps of the onions. Whisk remaining onions, eggs and cream in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Watermelon and Pomegranate Crush Serves 4, Prep 10 mins 400g piece seedless watermelon ½ cup pomegranate juice 2 tblsps fresh lime juice 2 tblsps vodka 1 tblsp caster sugar 2 cups ice cubes 1 tblsp fresh pomegranate seeds, to serve 1 Remove skin from watermelon. Chop flesh. 2 Place watermelon, juices, vodka, sugar and ice cubes into a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth. 3 Divide among four martini glasses. Decorate with pomegranate seeds.
