I had clothing with their faces on it, a giant floor puzzle, numerous books and even a doll! It’s hard to believe it’s 30 years since two bananas in striped pyjamas were first seen coming down the stairs, chasing teddy bears. REAL LIFE Seeing a homeless man sleeping on the front steps of their former workplace changed the way Gali Blacher and Madelyn Jones live their own lives. Pizza Quesadillas Serves 4, Prep and Cook 20 mins 4 x 26cm flour tortillas¼ cup pizza sauce80g sliced pepperoni¼ cup basil leaves, plus extra to serve80g sliced cup mushrooms1 small red capsicum, thinly sliced1 cup grated pizza cheese 1 Place one tortilla on a board. Cut a line through tortilla from the centre to the edge. 2 Spread about 1 tblsp of pizza sauce over right half of tortilla. Arrange one-quarter of pepperoni and basil on bottom right quarter, one-quarter of mushrooms on top right quarter, one-quarter of capsicum on top left quarter and one-quarter of cheese on bottom left quarter. 3 Fold bottom right quarter over top right quarter. Strawberry and Rhubarb Sponge Pudding Serves 8, Prep and Cook 40 mins ²⁄³ cup strawberry jam 1 bunch rhubarb, trimmed, cut into 4cm lengths 250g punnet strawberries, hulled, halved ½ x 450g packet double unfilled rectangular sponge cake 3 egg whites ¾ cup caster sugar 1 Combine jam and ½ cup water in a large bowl. Stir in rhubarb. Transfer to a roasting pan lined with baking paper. 2 Cook in a hot oven (200C) for 15 minutes, or until just tender.
