There’s nothing like a good Aussie lawn bowls club. I spent much of my childhood school holidays cheering on my nanna from the sidelines in Crystal Brook, South Australia – she was a weapon on the green – and one of my first jobs as a cadet journalist was reporting on the local comps. Nowadays, I don’t mind an afternoon of barefoot bowls with my mates, though I’ll never live up to Nanna’s sports legacy.
