Top Fuel Funny Cars has not been seen as a competition class in Australia for a number of years but that all changed this year at the Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway, where it was reintroduced. Leading the field is the Aeroflow Performance team, but what goes on behind the scenes to run a 10,000-plus horsepower, 500kph top fuel funny car?
Logistically, the race meeting for the Aeroflow team started almost 1000kms away at their Sydney-based workshop where, for weeks before the race, they prepare the car, build spare engines, fit spare cylinder heads with valves and springs, fit tyres to rims, measure, weigh, and assemble spare pistons and rods, and check the inventory of fuel, oil, and consumables, before loading it all up and making the long journey.
