For fast, wide-angle zooms, there are the Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED at £1,799 /$1,747 and Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S at £2,499 /$2,497 to factor into your buying considerations. In the F-mount camp, we’d rule out the AF-S lens, as we prefer the directly competing Sigma lens on test for image quality and all-round performance; it’s only two-thirds the price, too.
The Z 14-24mm pretty much blows its older F-mount sibling out of the water for image quality, handling and overall performance. It’s an absolutely fabulous lens that sits perfectly at the wide-angle end of Nikon’s magnificent f/2.8 ‘trinity’ collection. Again though, it’s 50 percent more to buy than the Nikon F-mount lens, and costs twice as much as the Sigma, so it certainly doesn’t come cheap.…
