30 MINS Camera shake might seem like a relatively simple concept, but are you maximising your potential for tack-sharp images every time? Shaky shots occur when your shutter speed isn’t fast enough to compensate for unavoidable camera movement, and is therefore most common when you’re shooting handheld. Samyang has launched a fast AF 35-150mm F2-2.8 FE zoom for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. It’s the second zoom lens in the company’s autofocus lens range, following on from the AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE, which went on sale last year. As is usual, the new lens will be sold under the Rokinon brand in North America. The 35-150mm focal range is a slightly unusual one, though it’s a range that has previously been produced by Tamron, most recently in the form of the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD. Found in Lightroom, and in Photoshop’s Camera Raw workspace, the effect is applied via a slider – and it not only lets you reduce haze, it also allows you to go the other way and make your photos look more hazy. Of course, the effect isn’t a magic trick that actually eradicates haziness. Instead, it works by applying a boost in contrast and sharpness to a specific part of the tonal range – the part that usually correlates with hazy highlights in landscapes. For example, visualise a silhouette of a tree – you don’t need any details within the silhouette to know that what you’re looking at is a tree. Photography website and magazine All About Photo has announced the winners of its main competition, the All About Photo Awards – The Mind’s Eye, for 2023, featuring a stunning selection of images in every conceivable genre from photographers around the world. Priyo Widdi from Indonesia took first place, the title of Photographer of the Year and a cash prize of $5,000 for his powerful and inspiring image of players from the Indonesian National Wheelchair Basketball Team competing against each other during a practice session.
