Unless you’re fortunate enough to be flooded with offers after one of your pictures becomes an overnight hit on social media, it’s unlikely that you’re going to be pulling in the big bucks a day or two after going semi-pro. That’s not to say you can’t spend a few days putting the groundwork in, though, and one of the easiest things you can do is make use of the photos you already have. For many photographers, the holy grail is being able to sell prints to clients for plenty of money. There’s still a market for traditional prints for people to hang on their walls, despite the growth of online sharing, and knowing that people enjoy your images enough to keep them on permanent display is almost payment enough – almost. Some photographers opt for the exhibition route, often sharing the space with other photographers in order to split costs. The Minimalist Photography Awards has announced the winners and finalists in its 2024 competition. This is the sixth annual contest organised by Black & White Minimalism magazine, and more than 3,400 photographs were submitted by photographers from around the globe in 12 categories including Street, Landscape, Long Exposure, Conceptural, Abstract and Architecture. The competition was established to celebrate the art of minimalist photography, and recognise the best photographers working within the genre. This simple technique is a creative way to show off an entire timelapse sequence in a single photograph, and it’s a great way to show the passing of time in a garden or elsewhere. All you need to do is set up your camera on a tripod and engage the interval shooting setting; if your camera doesn’t have this feature, you can buy a remote cable release with a built-in interval timer.
