I wanted to make a quilt from the time I was four years old. That’s odd perhaps, but I was always drawn to the idea of stitching patchwork to create something cozy and warm—and useful. Over the years, I made quilts as gifts, t-shirt quilts to mark the races my running friends finished, quilts to commemorate weddings, and to celebrate the birth of babies. finished size: 66" × 78" finished blocks: 83 (6" X 8"), 10 (4" X 6") Signature quilts are my favorite. I made a signature quilt for my parent’s 50th wedding anniversary. I used a Double Wedding Ring in the center and used photo transfer to put their wedding picture and a current picture in two rings. The other two rings had machine embroidery with the dates. The colors were green and gold–their provincial Saskatchewan colors. My brother did most of the running around, collecting signatures with his little squares of fabric backed with freezer paper and the Micron pens. It was hilarious! There wasn’t a shortage to select from—X the Owl from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood, Charlie the Owl from New Zoo Revue, and even Owl from Winnie the Pooh. The final—and quite possibly the most important—step in quiltmaking is adding the label. 1. Working on paper side of fusible web, trace appliqué shape. Here, we’re tracing an 8½" circle template onto a square of fusible web folded into quarters. 2. You’ll want about a ½" of fusible web. Here, we’re tracing a smaller circle template, then cutting. If you’re working without a template, rough-cut ¼" on either side of traced line. 3. Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse web to wrong side of appliqué fabric. 4. Carefully cut appliqué shape from fabric on drawn line, leaving ¼" of fusible web inside shape. Here, we’re using a circle template for accuracy. 5. After cutting appliqué shape, peel off paper backing. 6. Position appliqué in place on background fabric, and fuse shape in place. Choose a relatively plain fabric for the signatures. Test the pens you plan to use on the actual fabric for visibility and bleeding. Pre-washing the signature fabric is a personal choice. The inked signatures may soak into the fabric better if the sizing has been washed away, but if you wash the signature fabric, you may want to wash the other fabrics as well. Before cutting, iron the fabric to freezer paper to stabilize it for signing. Cut extra pieces so mistakes are no problem. A note about seam allowances: it’s very important that you clearly outline the area into which the signature goes. Allow for some space between the signature and the seam allowance; give yourself some insurance by drawing a box well inside the seam allowance (a few…

10 oz pkg of frozen spinach 1-2 tbsp of olive oil 1-2 cloves of garlic, chopped 6 oz jar of artichoke hearts, chopped with any tough leaves/stem pieces removed 15 oz jar of alfredo sauce (I use Classico 4 Cheese Alfredo) ½ cup mayonnaise ½ cup parmesan cheese 1½ cups of mozzarella cheese, shredded Preheat oven to 425°. Over med-high heat in a large pan, sauté spinach in olive oil along with 1-2 cloves of garlic. Add chopped artichoke hearts. Mix well and remove from heat. Add alfredo sauce, mayonnaise, parmesan cheese, and mozzarella cheese. Transfer to baking dish and bake at 425° for about 20 minutes or until top browns. The blocks are assembled by adding a red border to large center squares, then stitching and flipping the outer corners twice. This allows the creation of a nice Churn Dash secondary block in the sashes! This quilt could easily be done in one weekend as it uses larger patches and super easy piecing methods. 1. To make a band, pair two strips with right sides facing and raw edges aligned. Stitch with ¼" seam. Press flat to set stitches. 2. Fold top strip back and gently press seam open to one side. There are several ways to make Flying Geese. Which method you choose depends partly on personal preference, but also has to do with how many you need, how large or small they are, whether the fabrics are all the same or scrappy, and how they fit together in the project. Flying Geese are twice as wide as they are tall. Common sizes are 1"x 2", 1½"x 3", 2"x 4", and 3"x 6". Here you’ll find four methods to make Flying Geese and suggestions for when each method would be most useful. For our examples, we used Flying Geese to finish at 2"x 4". finished size: 70" × 88" On a recent trip to Bear Lake, I was freezing in the evenings while sitting outside. I wished I had a simple-to-make quilt that was also graphically appealing. I wondered what would happen if I cut squares as large as possible and then cut them into quarters. I don’t think I have ever seen a quilt with such huge triangles—but wonder, why not? It certainly would be a cost-effective use of the fabric. My intention was to back this quilt with something easy to care for and very cuddly because I want to drag it around with us as we travel. Roughly cut out drawn appliqué shape and follow manufacturer’s instructions to fuse to wrong side of appliqué fabric. 3. With small, sharp scissors, carefully cut out drawn shape. 4. Peel off paper backing. Position appliqué in place on background fabric, and fuse shape in place. 5. Using coordinating thread and your preferred stitch, machine appliqué outline of shape. 6. 1. Cut number of 2½"-wide strips necessary to equal the perimeter of quilt plus 20". Join strips with diagonal seams into one continuous piece. Press seams open. 2. Press binding in half lengthwise, wrong sides together. 3. Begin in middle of one side of quilt. Leaving a 12" tail of binding free, match raw edges of binding strip to raw edge of quilt top. Use an even-feed or walking foot to sew through all layers with ¼" seam. 4. To miter corners, stop ¼" from corner, backstitch, and remove quilt from sewing machine. 5. Rotate quilt a quarter turn and fold binding straight up, away from the corner, forming a 450 angle fold.
