finished size: 70” x 84” I would love a winter snuggle quilt that lasts all winter—rather than a holiday-related quilt. We live at the foot of the amazing Wasatch mountains, and this design reminds me of them. While there are similarities to Bear Lake, a quilt I designed for Quick + Easy Quilts a few years ago, there are many differences also. It is a strippy quilt and will go together quickly. Tricky Triangles Aligning equilateral triangles is easy—you just line them up and sew. Any other triangle or diamond shape, not so much! Acute, Isosceles, and unusual degrees of triangles need very special handling in order for them to form straight rows, lie fl at, and align properly. There are lots of rulers and cutting tools that solve the problem by cutting off the sharp tips (sometimes called “engineered points”) and making it easy to line up your triangles. However, what if you don't have the right ruler or die—or just don't want to take the extra time cutting all those teeny points? The blocks are put together very unconventionally; this was necessary to get that feel of four large wrapped gifts or one big one. It reminds me of my mom; she was like a little kid when it came to Christmas. She couldn't wait to get to the presents, so she could watch us open what she bought us. She loved opening presents just as much. For our family, Christmas has never been about gifts, but to see Mom get so excited about them was very joyful to watch. Hence the name Joyful Gifts.
