Bashing and buggies… those are hands-down my two favorite segments in the RC world. While many RC buggy enthusiasts focus on the heart-pounding excitement of competitive off-road racing, I prefer bashing my buggies on all terrains, always trying out new stunts and just plain going fast. That’s why I was excited to find out that Traxxas has recently released an updated version of their bash-worthy buggy, Bandit. While Bandit can be modified to take on competition-bred buggies, its true strength is flexed as an all-out basher. It’s made to go fast and absorb any abuse that’s thrown at it. What does it mean to bash? RC bashing is the time-honored tradition of just plain having fun with your RC vehicle, making it do wild tricks, pull off impossible landings and even trying to break personal speed-run records. Anyone involved in the world of radio-controlled vehicles understands the amount of patience, determination, creativity, persistence, perseverance, problem solving, camaraderie—and of course, fun—that is associated with building, driving and repairing them. All of these are valuable lessons and skills can be used throughout life, so why not take advantage and teach them to students in the school setting? What if, by working with a hobby shop, we could use RC crawlers as a vehicle for real-world experiences and hands-on learning to help them gain this knowledge and much more while having fun in school? Horizon Hobby’s RC Fest is a true hands-on celebration of the fun, power, speed and latest tech of RC. The event venue, located at Eli Field in Monticello, Illinois, is expansive, with plenty of parking and a huge aircraft hangar, paved runway, try-me tracks, an epic off-road and trail adventure area, dirt race tracks, RC crawling and pulling areas, a boat pond, a mud bog, and so much more. You don’t even need to get a good look at one to already know what it is. Even a quick or partial glance at a Chevrolet C/K pickup truck lets you instantly identify it. It is that iconic. REEF’S RC 99: MICRO DIGITAL MICRO SERVO FEATURES The Reef’s RC 99:Micro is a high-voltage digital micro servo that is designed to take on serious use. The 99:Micro features metal internal gears and two ball bearings for internal support and smooth operation. The coreless digital servo motor works with a power supply of 6V up to 8.4V, with no BEC required. This tiny servo outputs an impressive 89 oz-in of torque @6V and upwards of 115 oz-in with an 8.4V supply.
