One – of many – perks of this slightly strange job is that I get to read all the magazine’s stories well in advance. That’s what editors do, apparently, and there’s nothing remarkable about it. However, what can be more remarkable is reading through an entire rebuild series in one huge chunk, rather than in the portions delivered in these gleaming pages.
What this means is that I read the whole process, from finding the bike, buying the bike, checking it out to see what’s what, figuring out what to do with it, doing the research, stripping it, fixing, it, rebuild and … usually but not always – riding it. Phew. But this is why I am endlessly packed with admiration for those who tackle rebuilds of seriously obscure machinery.…
