“Beauden Barrett wants Japan to return to Super Rugby” THE RETURN of Super Rugby Pacific for 2025 has prompted All Blacks fly-half Beauden Barrett to call for Japan to be reinstated in the competition. Japan were part of Super Rugby from 2016-20, when the Tokyo-based Sunwolves were playing in a league that at its 2017 peak had 18 teams from four continents. Since then, Super Rugby has shrunk, with the Sunwolves, Argentinabased Jaguares and South African sides all leaving. In 2025, the league will host just 11 teams split across New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and the Pacific Islands. 1 Uruguay Uruguay’s men were the toast of the Perth SVNS after beating both Fiji (24-17) and New Zealand (17-12). Having overcome a 17-point deficit to stun Fiji, Uruguay downed the Kiwis for the first time to trigger euphoric scenes. DURING THE pandemic, it was the done thing to clap outside your house to show your appreciation for all the NHS staff going above and beyond the call of duty. Thankfully, Covid has now loosened its grip on society, but registered nurse Carys Cox has still been going the extra mile to juggle 12-hour shifts with playing top-level rugby in different countries.
