Marcin Lorkowski takes his yarn dyeing very seriously. “Initially, I even used scientific devices to monitor pH, temperature and time,” he says. “Every single skein is therefore dyed by me. I can’t mentally let someone else dye yarn for me!” His intense scientific approach comes to him naturally – before starting Martin’s Lab, Marcin worked at a university as a scientist, and he has a PhD in molecular dynamics. “The world of science was fascinating, but the world of yarn seemed friendlier and more colourful,” he says. Study the history of crochet lace anywhere in the world, and it very quickly becomes a story about women and their ability to overcome hardships, innovate and communicate.
