Designer Ashlynn Duncan’s crochet closet is a festival-goer’s fantasy. Many of us crocheters live happily in a sea of works in progress (aka WIPs), surrounded by treasures we’ll finish ‘one day’. But what about those WIPs that outlive their originators? Launched by US-based crafting buddies Masey Kaplan and Jennifer Simonic in 2022, Loose Ends matches unfinished fibre arts projects with volunteers around the world who complete those makes for the deceased’s loved ones to cherish. GETTING STARTED The idea for Loose Ends came when Masey and Jennifer were helping a bereaved friend pack up her mother’s belongings. “Her mom had started two blankets, one for each of her sons, and we offered to finish them,” they tell us.
