The doll represents the ‘Lavradeira’ costume from Viana do Castelo in the Minho region, north Portugal. The outfit originated in the 19th century and was worn by rural women during festivities. It is characterised by detailed embroidery and bold colours and includes a shirt, a skirt, a bodice, an apron, a kerchief worn on the head, and an abundance of gold jewellery.
