Cait McCormack’s ‘Souvenirs of the Wasteland’ exhibit featured in a recent Hooked, and we were so intrigued we couldn’t resist finding out more. Growing up in rural New Jersey influenced the creations of the talented fibre artist, who explores themes such as grief and climate anxiety via crochet sculptures of bird skeletons, plants, and other organic forms. Where: Japan When: 5 May 2025 What’s it all about: On Kodomo No Hi, or Children’s Day, families celebrate children and pray for their health and happiness. Where: Buñol, Spain When: 27 August 2025 What’s it all about: This fiesta sees crowds having a wonderful time throwing tomatoes! A pole goes up in the town square, covered in soap with a huge ham on the end, and people try to reach it. Water soaks the ‘soldiers’, and at 11am a shot announces the start. Tomato ‘ammunition’ trucks appear, the crowd rushes for their ‘bullets’, and soon everything turns red. A second shot signals the end of the battle, and the brave participants are hosed down.
