SIMPLE EYELET BUTTONHOLE An eyelet buttonhole is the most commonly used buttonhole. It creates a small hole, with a soft edge. This makes it very stretchy, so if working it in your garment, ensure that the buttons you select are a fair amount larger than the hole or they will slip out easily. Due to the lack of a firm edge, the simple eyelet buttonhole method is best suited to lighter yarns and smaller needles. In anything over a DK-weight yarn it can be tricky to make it look neat. Your yarn should ideally have some elasticity as it will need to ‘bounce back’ from being stretched, so avoid using this technique for yarns with a high cotton, silk, alpaca or cashmere content. 1 Work a simple eyelet buttonhole, on…
