The sensor is unarguably the most critical part of a camera body or of any device that captures images. Little is known however about sensor manufacturers and their market shares. It is interesting to note that Sony controls 42% of this market. Samsung comes in at number two with a 19% share. Omnivision of the US comes in at number three with 11%.
