WiiM, a brand from California-based Linkplay Technology, has two more high-value boxes to tempt those in the market for streaming components. The first is the $599 WiiM Ultra (above), a touchscreen-equipped music streamer that can also handle preamp and headphone amp duties. Its aluminium casing and premium design are more substantial than the smaller plastic-cased Pro Plus, while the DAC is upgraded to the ESS Sabre ES9038QM2 DAC, which can handle hi-res audio files up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD512. Connectivity includes an HDMI ARC input, one pair of RCA line-level in and out, optical in/out, USB-A, and coax, sub and trigger outs. There's a 3.5mm headphone output on the front panel.
