A steady southeast wind layered chop atop building seas was exactly the conditions I was hoping for to sea trial the Regulator 35. Any boat rides well on calm days, but chunky, short-period swells separate wheat from chaff. Tom Kniskern, a longtime Regulator dealer who operates KMC Marine in Lighthouse Point, Florida, manned the helm as we picked our way toward open water. With enough room to put the boat up on plane, the Regulator ride showed through. We found a happy cruise at 36 knots, zipping along in the 2- to 4-footers and netting .8 mpg. I once knew a guy who spent a New England winter living in a marina aboard a 24-foot sailboat. It sounded romantic, but in reality, he suffered. No amount independence from lawnmowers and mortgages could offset the cold, damp, cramped quarters or the lack of heat, hot water or space—even for a cat. Such hardships wouldn’t be an issue on the new Krogen 60 Open. Although its length and beam are similar to its raised pilothouse sister, the Krogen 58, the 60 feels considerably larger. In mid-2025, Outer Reef Yachts announced that the 780 Adventure, the first boat completed after its merger with Lynx Yachts, had completed an impressive shakedown cruise—a 2,300-plus nautical-mile voyage from its Dutch shipyard to La Napoule, France. According to Outer Reef’s President and CEO, Jeff Druek, and Trevor De Faoite, Managing Director of Outer Reef Europe, the 780 was a comfortable and smooth operator on the leg from Gibraltar to La Napoule. Her effcient hull design returned a fuel burn of 5 gallons per hour at eco-cruise, which gives her a range of over 5,000 nautical miles. Druek says the Adventure 780, which made her world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, is for adventurous cruisers who want to drop the hook farther afield than the usual Bahamas anchorages. Dichotomy. That’s the word I jot my notebook as we idle back through a no-wake zone aboard Azimut’s new Seadeck 7. In many ways, the second sibling in the Seadeck line is, at 71 feet, a proper motoryacht—with the styling, quality construction, and trickle-down features you would expect from Azimut-Benetti. The 2025 Dubai International Boat Show could easily have changed its name to the Gulf Craft International Boat Show. With 18 boats on display—including eight world premieres—the Middle East’s only major yacht builder put on a tour de force for the relatively small but seriously qualified boating crowd that showed up at the docks. One of those world premieres was the Oryx 47 LX, a vessel that will check a lot of boxes for American boaters. Oryx is one of four lines that Gulf Craft builds (megayacht lines include Majesty and Nomad, and Silvercat, a lineup of smaller catamarans). Named for the national animal of the United Arab Emirates, the Arabian oryx, Oryx’s boats are fast, agile and hearty, just like their desert-dwelling namesakes. The 47 comes in open “FX”…

As is pretty well known by now, Pearl Yachts is one of Britain’s smaller yacht companies, yet one of its most successful. Annual output is measured in dozens rather than hundreds, and each of those dozen or so yachts is put together, in China, with a level of care, quality, and an attention to the customer’s choices that borders on the bespoke. The choices are legion, and not all binary: Some options you either take or leave, but there are three engine options, three interior design schemes, and plenty of other decisions to make. Riviera Yachts won praise with its Sport Yacht series. The boats are epic poems to the Ozzie boating life, offering the ideal combination of indoor-outdoor living atop lithe, stout hulls built to take on the notoriously heavy seas off Australia. The model line, which ranges in size from 46 to 60 feet, was further enhanced several years back with the Platinum Series. The in-house customization graces the boats with modified exterior and interior styling cues that include striking gunmetal hulls and dark electronics arrays with matching soft goods and other luxe touches throughout. In a confused mix of head, following, and beam seas, I adjusted the throttle on Back Cove’s 412, trying to find a sweet spot. As it turned out, in the washing machine-like conditions between Newport, Rhode Island, and our destination at the northern end of Buzzards Bay, that sweet spot was between 19 and 21 knots. According to the World Happiness Report (which is a real thing), Finland has been the world’s happiest country for eight years running. Boaters who have visited the Nordic nation may have a clue as to why. It has loads of gorgeous coastline and everyone there seems to have access to a boat. As such, a bevy of Finnish builders compete for dominance both in that country and the hallowed American market. There are the omnipresent Axopars, the upstart XOs, and also Saxdors, which offer a slightly upscale option over the competition, though still at a reasonable price point. Taking in the profile of the Aquila 50 Yacht on a warm morning at Key Largo’s Ocean Reef Club, I met Global Brand Director Alain Raas. “If you look at the evolution of cats, they’ve changed a lot in the past decade—they were just big boxes or rectangles on the water and were not very attractive,” admits Raas. “And so, what we on the Aquila side have really focused on is making them look a lot better; more yachty, sportier. When Axopar began drawing lines in Finland barely a decade ago, they couldn’t have possibly imagined the product of their imagination careening between the narrow, red-rock walls of Glen Canyon in the parched, triple-degree heat of the southwestern United States. On February 15, 2023, Scout Boats founder Steve Potts took the stage at the Miami boat show. Flanked by his son and Lead Designer Stevie, the Potts revealed a small model that wowed even jaded marine journos. The 670 LXS would be the longest outboard-powered yacht ever. She had the swooping, downswept lines of a Scout, but bore five 600-horsepower Mercury outboards and a high, flared sportfishevoking bow. With walkways from cockpit to foredeck, she was ostensibly an “outboard-powered center console,” but she had much more indoors space than, say, the HCB 65 Estrella or Scout’s then flagship 530 LXF. It was a splendid morning in Washington’s San Juan Islands, the site of Passagemaker’s Trawlerfest event in the Pacific Northwest. Our test steed, the North Pacific 590 Skylounge, was making her world debut. The builder’s largest-ever vessel, the 590 is a big jump from its 49-foot flagship. I make tiny adjustments to her heading from the matching Llebroc helm chair, and it feels great to be aboard this inaugural enclosed flybridge model. (she’s also available with a lower pilothouse and flybridge.) The 590’s helm is on centerline. Five forward-facing windows and rectangular side glass give expansive visibility. Her standard electronics suite—three 16-inch Garmin multifunction displays, Sleipner variable-speed bow and stern thrusters, autopilot and engine controls—is smartly arranged from the destroyer-style wheel. One of the most memorable ad campaigns of the 1980s and 1990s was Absolut Vodka. The Swedish brand entered a competitive American spirits market with a bottle shaped like an apothecary tincture. The ad agency capitalized on this oddity, featuring it on ads drawn by Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, with others depicting swimming pools, ski slopes, and New York City traffc in the bottle’s distinctive silhouette. Sales skyrocketed. I think of these print ads during my tours aboard the boats from Absolute Yachts. The Italy-based builder seemingly came out of nowhere in the early 2010s to take on a packed segment, adding its own line of sleek flybridge models. When a 135-year-old Italian boatyard tackles a modern design, you get something unexpected: bygone elegance fused with contemporary performance. In the Fratelli Aprea Lancia Aprea 52—a powder-blue stunner—classic Amalfi Coast charm meets new-world utility, powered here by quad 600-horsepower V12s. Fratelli Aprea’s new line ranges from 32 to 72 feet and will generally be Volvo-Penta IPS in-board-powered, but the U.S. market demanded an outboardfriendly version—and they delivered, complete with a shallow 2’9” draft and a sprawling teak swim platform. Fratelli Aprea’s traditional gozzos are built by hand in Sorrento with an obsessive attention to detail. Until recently, they were rare in the States. On a muggy morning last Spring, I met Palm Beach Yachts CEO Mark Richards at a Malaysian marina. Richards was excited to take a crew out for a trial of a new 65-footer that Palm Beach calls its “Alpha Model.” She’s a shapely and somewhat sinister-looking speedster called the GT60, and she’s destined for the States. Like all Palm Beaches, there’s what I’d call a timeless E-type Jaguar quality to her downswept, Down East lines and beautifully curved cockpit windshield. Slathered in a deep blue-gray Awlgrip with an aggressive orange band along her lower hull, she looks to be running 30 knots just standing still. Six years ago, Prestige loaned the Power & Motoryacht team their 46-foot flybridge model for an entire summer so we could truly test the boat and learn what the brand was all about. Time is a funny thing—six years can feel like a blink, yet in other ways, it seems like a lifetime ago. It’s not uncommon to hear grumbling on the docks about the cost of new boats. Here’s the good news for those weary of sticker shock: Beneteau’s latest launch is a family-friendly pocket cruiser for all seasons that carries a competitive price. The Antares 9 is a 30-foot, 6-inch boat that costs around $275,000 with most cruising amenities, including a pair of Mercury outboards. It replaces the previous iteration of this model. The 9 is one of six boats in the Antares series, a line of pilothouse cruisers in production for 47 years, ever since the 7.50 was launched in 1977. After nearly a decade of service, the team at Pursuit decided that it was time the popular OS 325 Offshore center console—first launched in 2015—was updated. “It has seen a good life cycle, and it was time for it to be revamped,” said Mark Taiclet, Pursuit Director of Brand Management, during our sea trial off Fort Pierce, Florida. The modular construction and semi-custom interiors will interest a range of owners—so long as they’re ready to make the jump to electric. Silent Yachts burst onto the scene in 2009, pushing fully electric propulsion. With hypothetically limitless range from solar panels and lithium batteries, the tradeoff is that owners might need to alter their cruising style for more moderate speeds and power consumption on board. Sitting at a hole-in-the-wall bar outside Seakeeper’s former Mohnton, Pennsylvania, facility several years ago with thennewly-minted CEO Andrew Semprevivo and Head of Marketing Kelsey Barrett, we glanced through the menu and swapped stories over glasses of tap water. I heard it said more than once at this year’s Palm Beach boat show that the docks were choked with center consoles. One model that didn’t get lost in the slew was Sōlace’s new 30CS. This, the third and smallest of their CS/Center Step lineup (which also includes the 32CS and 37CS), is about the most amenity-laden “small” center console I’ve seen. Though I’m familiar with Homer’s reference to the Aegean as “wine-dark,” I always thought that guy was full of it—until I visited Greece to sea trial Omikron’s OT-60. Standing at the transom as we zipped across the Meltemi wind-whipped chop, I peered down into the sea. Not quite cabernet, but there was an undeniable magenta overtone. Homer knew his stuff. So does Omikron. I can’t recall a builder as versatile. The Greek connection to the sea runs deep. With thousands of islands and a peninsula surrounded by water, the country ranks third globally for total commercial ships and leads in oil tankers. Arcadia’s quirky little Sherpa was one of my favorite boats of 2016 when we tested the first one in the Bay of Naples, and it has remained a firm favorite ever since. The manifest oddness of its appearance—which in the intervening years has come to seem a lot less odd, as other shipyards adopt the concept—evaporated as soon as I walked up the gangplank. You instantly understand the concept—a brilliant ordering of priorities that focuses on using the boat as a boat. Nothing impedes the pleasure of simply being afloat. Dense white walls of spray crashed over the bow and buffeted the towering, enclosed bridge. The wipers sprinted from side to side, flicking the spray from the boat’s brow like a fighter saying, “Is that all you got?” I’m reminded of the maxim builders like Maritimo often use: You’ll break before the boat does. I’ve long been a fan of Princess’s Sportbridge range as I think it offers a maximal amount of on-board enjoyment mixed with an aesthetic that would make me proud to own one—no small feat of design. I was lucky enough to tour the builder’s new S65, a boat that debuted in Cannes in 2024, at this year’s Miami boat show. What I found was a vessel in line with what I was expecting, which is to say, it left me wanting for little else. For a $5.4-million boat, this model packs a lot into a 66-foot, 10-inch footprint. You may be wondering why Power & Motoryacht is reviewing the Sunseeker Manhattan 68, a boat that debuted a half a decade ago. It’s simple: While the exteriors and the 69-foot, 7-inch by 17-foot, 3-inch footprint are virtually untouched, the interiors on this popular model are all new. Despite an exterior close to the initial design, the Manhattan 68 still pops. Knife-like hullside windows appear to twist like a helix as they peel backward, breaking up the yacht’s profile. The 2013 Seattle Boat Show was a transformative experience for Brian Krantz. A towing and salvage captain by trade, Krantz was looking to hang a shingle as a boat broker.
