THE ENCHANTING VILLAGES that dot the English countryside are known for exuberant gardens that positively spill over with beaucoups of blooms. These charming and cheerful displays inspired our own Tracey Runnion to create a dazzling arrangement that would look equally at home in a Cotswolds cottage and a Southern abode. Summer is a season meant to be spent in the garden, and this delightful patch of paradise, located just outside of Birmingham, Alabama, is especially inviting. The abundance of deep green foliage and soft blue and creamy-white flowers in Donna McFeeters’ beautiful backyard plot gives the illusion that the space is much cooler than the thermometer indicates. More than a decade in the making, her garden is most certainly a labor of love, but it’s also a place of peace for this busy lady. GRILLED MEDITERRANEAN PIZZA Makes ? large or ? medium pizzas Pizza Crust (recipe on page ??) A little over eight years ago, landscape designer Jay Love purchased a plot of land in North Forsyth County, Georgia, at the base of Sawnee Mountain. Jay envisioned the space—once a working farm—as a destination event venue and an outdoor studio where the beauty of the landscape would inspire artists of all kinds. When he bought the plot, it contained only a rustic barn and a bungalow farmhouse with little landscaping. Jay says that he wanted to create a “fresh and innovative natural space that would also maintain the property’s history.” After several years of design, installation, and nurturing, the garden has blossomed into Three In One Studio. With 20 years of experience as a professional art restorer under his belt, North Carolinian Tommy Mitchell began applying his knowledge of craft to his own artwork. Inspired by antique European tole (enameled or lacquered metalware) sculptures, he started making original pieces and selling them privately. Tommy focuses on botanical subjects, in homage to his parents and his four older sisters—all of whom are avid gardeners. After crafting floral forms from hand-hammered sheets of copper, brass, or steel, he meticulously paints or gilds each petal and leaf.
