WITCH’S HAT Makes 4 servings 1 (16-ounce) package chocolate-flavored candy coating* 4 (3-inch-round) waffle cookies 4 ice-cream cones 4 scoops chocolate ice cream 1/4 cup bittersweet chocolate shavings Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Melt candy coating according to package directions. Dip waffle cookies into melted candy coating, allowing excess to drip off . Place on prepared pan. Using a spoon, spread melted candy coating up sides and over tops of ice-cream cones. Place cones on top of waffle cookies to make “hats.” Let cool completely. Place a scoop of ice cream in a serving dish. Sprinkle chocolate shavings around ice cream. Top with ice-cream-cone hat. Repeat with remaining ice cream, chocolate shavings, and hats. Halloween always brings back such fun memories of my childhood. Being one of eight children, I remember how creative my mom was, using her sewing machine and McCall’s patterns to costume all of us for the big night. She handmade everything—from a clown to a dog to twin Dutch-girl outfits complete with long yellow-yarn braids for my sister and me. I also recall having a great bowl of soup before heading out, and we were each given our own little flashlights to guide the way.
