A JOURNEY TO THE ART MUSEUM: ‘MMCA GWACHEON PROJECT 2021: ART BUS SHELTER’

‘MMCA Gwacheon Project 2021: Art Bus Shelter’ will be on display at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) Gwacheon shuttle bus stop until Nov. 21, 2022. The MMCA Gwacheon project is the second project to promote the Gwacheon Pavilion and revitalise this outdoor space. Of Seoul Pavilion, Deoksugung Hall, and Gwacheon Hall, only Gwacheon Hall operates a shuttle bus from the nearest subway station to the art museum. The bus stop for Gwacheongwan is the first impression of the museum, but it was outdated and did not play a role more than a functional facility. RICHARD ROGERS, A MASTER OF HIGH-TECH ARCHITECTURE: IN MEMORIAM

On Dec. 18, 2021, Richard Rogers (1933 – 2021) passed away at the age of 88. According to his family, Rogers died at home in London and the cause was not disclosed. Rogers has gone down in the history of architecture for demonstrating high-tech architecture that boldly exposes structures and building services. The project that lifted him to the stature of world-renowned architect was when he won the design competition for the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France. Centre Pompidou (1977), jointly designed with Renzo Piano, is a building with a steel framework, escalators, and services systems that are exposed to the outside. The International Design Competition for Chungju National Museum On Dec. 7, the National Museum of Korea announced the results of the international design competition for the Chungju National Museum, which will be our fourteenth national museum. HOW TO HONOUR AN OLD ELEVATOR: ‘ELEVATION/CIRCULATION’

The exhibition ‘Elevation/Circulation’ was held at d/p from Dec. 15 to 31, 2021. Located on the fourth floor of the Nakwon Sangga, d/p focuses on exploring contemporaneity in its exhibition space for curators. The exhibition was based on elevator no. 3 of Nakwon Sangga. The mechanical elevator, manufactured by Schindler Group, has been in place since 1969 when the Nakwon Sangga was completed. In Sep. 2020, it was demolished with a record of its extensive operation in Korea. Over a year, the old elevator has become a cultural icon and retuned to us in other ways. The Kimchungup Architecture Museum, located in Anyang, is holding an exhibition entitled ‘Kim Chung-up, The Beginning: Architecture and Beyond’, which opened on Dec. 16, 2021. This exhibition plans to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Kim Chung-up’s birth in 2022. The exhibition is divided into three sections, each with its own theme. DISCUSSION CONCERNING THE ENACTMENT OF THE SPECIAL LAW: ʻREMODELLING OF APARTMENTS TO CREATE SUSTAINABLE RESIDENTIAL SPACEʼ

The seminar was held online (Zoom) to discuss practical issues and pending issues with experts before the special law was passed. Kim Eunhee (researcher, auri) explained, ‘In the cases of remodeling that involve an extension or increasing households, systematic project management were unlikely to be used due to a lack of regulations on changes in rights relations.
