William Murdoch's best-known contribution was to gas lighting. In Redruth in Cornwall, while managing a pumping engine installation, Murdoch made an important discovery. He was relaxing by the fire one evening when he placed some coal dust in the bowl of his pipe and placed this in the fire. The ocean sunfish is famous for being the largest bony fish in the world. Its scientific name is the mola mola and it is often called the mola fish. The average weight of ocean sunfish is 2,200 pounds. However, some have reached a size as large as 5,000 pounds. The sunfish has a grey, rough skin which can get infested with lots of parasites. Project Supplies: Battery-operated candles. Craft paint and small paintbrushes. Felt or fleece. Buttons. Hot glue gun and glue. Begin by removing any labels from the candle. We used battery operated candles, but you could use a tall white prayer candle in a glass too. First, paint a face onto the candle. We used black and orange craft paint. The mouth and eyes were painted with the handle end of the paint brush and black paint to look like lumps of coal.
