THE BOND between a family and the car that transports them is one that Victorian fruiterer Dom Luppino knows all too well. While he may be best known for his beastly turbo race Mustangs, Dom’s heart is with this stout ZD Fairlane. “My father purchased this Fairlane brand new when I was born, so it is a genuine one-owner car,” says Dom, who now owns the Nugget Gold barge. “As a kid I never caught a bus, train or tram because Mum drove us in this car. WE’RE all in agreeance that building a tough street machine has its challenges – the heartache of parts lost in transit, of late nights tinkering and of missed deadlines. Now, try to imagine how challenging building this stunning HG ute must have been for 62-year-old signwriter Peter Dienhoff, given that he did it all in the Northern Territory. “People think it’s all dirt roads up here with cattle across them,” laughs Peter, “but our roads are great for street machines – all flat and new. WE FEATURE plenty of cars with crazy colours and more body mods than a piercing specialist’s catalogue, but some like to leave that sort of thing in the hands of the original designers. You could be forgiven for thinking Mat Brown’s XE Falcon ESP is just a particularly tidy example with a set of aftermarket wheels, but you only have to look at the size of the brakes behind them to realise there’s a lot more going on here. WHEN Tim Haddock arrived at Chryslers On The Murray in 2015, he had $2000 in his pocket and an eye for a fresh project. The 49-year-old builder and Mopar addict had recently sold a tidy VC to help fund a raft of house renovations. WE’VE become used to seeing HQs painted all sorts of colours – from mild to wild – over the years. But the GM-H styling department was responsible for some of the craziest hues that Australia has ever seen – not to mention the names they came up with for them! MANY of us see building a car as a laborious process of hand-crafting parts and going through seemingly unending rounds of fitment by trial-and-error. However, the reality is that computers have revolutionised how cars can be built, with new technologies such as 3D scanning capable of radically improving the speed and accuracy of a build. Three-dimensional scanning has been used across many industries since the early 2000s, including the aerospace, OE automotive, archaeological and medical fields, but now its use is exploding within the realms street machining and hot rodding. WHILE the XB Falcon Interceptor coupe may have been the hero car from the original Mad Max flick, there was another dark-coloured two-door that set the tone for the film long before Max Rockatansky’s iconic ride showed up. Powering her is a four-bolt 454 GM Mk IV block, 30thou up. It runs ARP head and main studs, a polished GM steel crank and Scat H-beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts.
