I am thrilled to begin this new chapter. For the past three years, I talked myself out of launching a magazine. Yet, the idea never let go—it had a hold on me that I couldn’t shake. And so, here we are. SULAAH is a self-titled magazine dedicated to telling fashion stories both visually and through print. This magazine is for everyone—men and women alike. It is an intimate experience that explores lifestyle, culture, politics, and social issues through the lens of fashion in today’s ever-changing climate. Imagine it as your favorite café, where thoughtprovoking conversations and meaningful dialogue unfold. It is a hot summer night. The balmy air feels intoxicating, and your senses are heightened from a few spiked cocktails. Holding hands, you step into his apartment. He takes you in his arms, kissing you slowly and passionately—a preview of what’s to come. It feels like a scene from a movie. In the background, Childish Gambino’s “Summer Magic” sets the tone. You feel emboldened and begin to unbutton his shirt as his hands slide to the back of your dress, inching it down while he rains kisses along your neck. But suddenly, the music playing in your mind comes to a screeching halt. In the age of Tinder and Grindr, hookups have never been easier for men and women seeking one-night stands, relationships, or casual friendships. These revolutionary apps have inspired countless copycats, forever altering the cultural dating landscape and the ways people meet, date, and even fall in love. More importantly, they’ve given women the freedom to explore their sexuality without fear of judgment or stigma. I firmly believe that women should feel free to explore every aspect of their sexuality, bodies, and desires. Men have long been granted this freedom under the “boys will be boys” mantra. Meanwhile, women are often labeled with derogatory terms like “hoes,” “bitches,” or worse for the same behavior.
