Michelle Q I’m making a steamed pudding that calls for a trivet. What does that mean? Can I use something else? A trivet is a small metal rack that fits inside your saucepan to slightly elevate steamed puddings when submerged in water. It allows water to surround the pudding, completely, which ensures even cooking. It also stops the base of the pudding sinking to the bottom of the pot, which can cause the direct heat of the stove to overcook it.
