I DON’T know how well you know South Africa but if you’re at all familiar with this glorious country you will be aware of Stellenbosch. You might even have been. It is, after all, RSA’s most famous wine region, home to such names as Beyerskloof, Glenelly, Jordan, Journey’s End, Kanonkop, Meerlust, Rustenberg, Thelema, Tokara, Warwick, Waterford and so on.
Stellenbosch is a pretty, leafy, well-kept town named after himself by Simon van der Stel, the first governor of the Dutch Cape Colony in the 1690s. No self-effacing shrinking violet he.
