In Manhattan, New York, The Museum of Jewish Heritage is called a “living Memorial to the Holocaust,” known for sharing the first-hand stories of survivors. But in 2024, most Holocaust survivors are in their 80s or 90s, meaning those first-hand accounts will soon become history themselves. Jack Kliger, the museum's president and CEO, is the son of survivors and said the museum is now preparing for a “post-survivor world,” per an article by The New York Times. “What I care about is what your grand-children's grandchildren will know,” he said. This year, the world marked the 79th anniversary of the nuclear bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. To honor the tragic events and shed light on the threat of the nuclear arms race, artists and cultural icons such as Yoko Ono, Paris Jackson, and Alok Vaid-Menon took part in a global arts demonstration: #CranesForOurFuture. Incorporating origami cranes in fashion designs, social media posts, and even wheat-pasted posters in busy city streets, activists called for a future without nuclear weapons.
