Still, volunteer doctors persist to save lives. As of October 2024, MedGlobal healthcare teams were providing free care to approximately 3,000 patients in Gaza at 16 medical points, as well as assisting remaining hospitals with vital support. In 1993, a group of medical students — led by Jody Steinauer — formed the nonprofit Medical Students for Choice, in response to the “complete deficit of abortion education” in their medical training.
