IF YOUR name wasn’t down you couldn’t get in – that was the case at this year’s sell-out Edinburgh Yarn Festival (EYF), where advance tickets, classes, Big Knit Night, the ever-popular Ceilidh, and Sunday Make::Wool event were snapped up faster than you could knit up a beanie. BELINDA HARRIS_REID’S enthusiasm for yarn and knitting is infectious. Her events and art projects, patterns and yarn ranges, and her latest venture - a hotel dedicated to knitting - are all part of her mission to get as many people as possible knitting and exploring their creativity. ELINE OFTEDAL is a Norwegian designer who loves to create cosy handknit patterns with a modern Scandinavian aesthetic. Tin Can Knits are my go-to designers for baby projects, so when my friend announced she was expecting her first child, I took a look at my copy of 9 Months of Knitting. WHILE WORKING this stitch pattern, it’s important to remember that when slipping stitches we slip them ‘purlwise’ as if we were going to purl the stitch. This is because slipping the stitches ‘knitwise’ would twist the stitch. The thorn stitch pattern is worked with an eight-row repeat over a multiple of 4 stitches, plus 1 stitch.
