KNITTING WITH beads creates beautiful results, and is a lovely way to add a touch of sparkle to a special garment or to highlight a lace pattern. Many knitters avoid beading because they think it is going to be tricky, but it is actually relatively easy. Here, we explore the pre-strung method, where beads are added onto your yarn before knitting with it, and the crochet hook method which adds beads individually. For the pre-strung method, you will need a fine yet strong sewing thread, and a fine sewing needle - check that the needle will fit through the hole in your beads. COUNTRY INSPIRATION IN A DESIGN career spanning more than forty years, Sasha Kagan has been enchanting knitters with her colourful patterns inspired by the landscapes around her home in rural Wales. Country Inspiration is a reprint of Sasha’s classic book from 2000, which was photographed in Wales and is filled with knitting patterns reflecting the changing seasons, from winter snowdrops and spring wildflowers, to summer roses and autumn leaves. THE TRADITIONAL farmer’s almanac was a guide to the seasons, an annual nature-inspired book which offered information on the weather and planting dates, sunrises and sunsets, and the tides. The team at The Fibre Co. were inspired by this idea to create their own almanac for knitters: a monthly series of patterns based on seasonal themes. The Almanac Series, which launches in September, will see a new pattern released monthly, each one showcasing a specific yarn from The Fibre Co.’s range.
