I picked up this lovely pattern from An Caitín Beag when I was at Unravel in May this year. Marna Gilligan is well known for her catty patterns, but she has also designed a couple of delectable shawls, including this one, called ‘One Hundred Words for Rain’. She took inspiration from the many different types of rain in her native Ireland, and the result is this shawl - light and airy, yet snuggly and warm. It uses one skein of drapey 4ply yarn and one of featherlight kid mohair and silk. I’ve used Cat & Sparrow UK’s Oh! BEFORE COVID-19 and lockdown hit the world, Camilla Carter went on holiday to Cyprus, and it was a trip she took over to Turkey while on her vacation which proved to be a eureka moment for her. Camilla already owned an independent business in Cambridge with her husband, and was a keen knitter, but her local yarn shop had closed. “I was amazed at the wall-toceiling yarn shops that I discovered in Turkey, and was truly inspired,” she says. JAMES MCINTOSH credits knitting with helping him to regain his life and happiness after suffering from depression, and he has long been working to raise awareness of the mental health benefits of knitting and its use as a mindfulness practice – a process he likes to call ‘knititation’. After catching the knitting bug, he began designing patterns for himself, and later branched out into dyeing yarn, setting up his own business in 2019 called McIntosh Yarn.
