The Coast & Country collection has relaxed sweaters and cardigans taking inspiration from the British countryside. Colourwork projects include a long tartan cardigan, a seamless sweater with a Fair Isle yoke, simple striped designs, and an intarsia tank top with a stylised landscape pattern. The ‘Woodland Walk’ colourblock poncho has a collar and a zipped neck opening, and the roll-neck ‘Hedgerow Sweater’ uses embroidery embellishments to enhance its intarsia patterning. This is because here in the UK we have the most varied wool clip in the world with over 67 different pure breed and multiple cross breeds. “FOR MY Fair Isle footstool cover, I used bright colours for the motifs with natural shades for the background,” explains Mary Henderson. “My inspiration was childhood games with lines and counters. INCREASES MADE using the M1 (Make 1) method are neat and virtually invisible in the fabric – unlike a KFB (knit into the front and back of a stitch), which creates a little bump in the fabric. M1 increases can lean to the right or the left, and be worked on the knit or purl side of your work. They’re straightforward to work, but I usually forget which way to work M1L (left-leaning) and M1R (right-leaning), and their equivalents on the purl side – M1LP and M1RP.
