We’ve been admiring the gorgeous cabled patterns produced by Kelbourne Woolens using its Erin chunky heathered yarn, which is spun in Donegal, Ireland. Among the new pattern releases designed by Kathleen Meehan is the ‘Clare Pullover’, a raglan sweater which uses an array of classic Aran stitch patterns such as diamond cables, ropes, twists and bramble stitch. ‘James’ is inspired by traditional lumber jackets, and it’s a cardigan design with pockets, a folded collar, and a beautiful selection of cable patterns. The elegant ‘Orla’ vest is perfect for spring layering, and it has an attractive cable and broken rib fabric; we love how it looks in the ‘Curry’ shade of Erin. CASTING ON TO DPNS EVERY KNITTER is different, and that includes how we like to knit in the round, particularly when it comes to smaller pieces like socks, mittens, sleeves and hats. Fortunately, there are several different ways to knit in the round over small circumferences, so every knitter should be able to find something that suits them. I’m going to take a look at five different ways to achieve tiny tube mastery in this two-part masterclass series. We’ll start with the most traditional: double-pointed needles, also known as DPNs.
