JENNIE ATKINSON has used two different slip stitch patterns to create woven-effect fabrics for her bag and hat set. The long strap and sides of the bag are worked in a single-colour pattern called fabric stitch, while the main body and flap of the bag are knitted in a three-colour tweed pattern. This is also used to form a wide band around the hat; the crown and ribbed brim are worked in a single colour. “THE INSPIRATION for this design came from the flowers in my garden,” says Mary Henderson. “The four-stitch repeat gives lots of opportunity to play with bands of colour, varying the light and dark shades of pink/red with the softer green and orange-yellow. The sleeves, neck and button bands in a charcoal shade are a frame for the vibrant centre.
