Planting half a million trees
The National Trust, a conservation organization, has teamed up with a UK government–funded program to plant 416,000 trees in England by the end of March. The project is planting varieties such as oak, elm, birch, and alder to create woodlands, orchards, hedges, and pastures on nearly 1,300 acres of land across 20 sites. The trees will benefit local wildlife, including harvest mice, butterflies, and 13 bat species.
