I’M WHAT YOU MIGHT CALL an unlikely climber. I’m not a professional athlete or a millionaire with an eccentric hobby. In 1998, I emigrated from Belarus to the GTA with my husband and our three daughters. By the time I got serious about mountaineering, I was already in my 50s and had three grandchildren.
I started getting into fitness in my late 40s. It began with yoga, which progressed to Pilates, weightlifting and, finally, indoor rock climbing. Soon enough, I was hooked.
Eventually, I began climbing outdoors, at places like Rattlesnake Point in Milton and Mount Nemo in Burlington.
