Girls’ debut was a buoyant, brilliant burst of a record — opener “Lust For Life” worth the price of admission alone. The band pickpocketing from the past — a little Beach Boys here, a touch of Costello there, so that the sound was always familiar, but half-heard; your favourite songs played through heavy fog. 10/10

The second offering from Owens and White continued the band’s musical conversation with the past. Echoes of The Beatles, Deep Purple, Paul Simon met the delivery of Elliott Smith to carry lyrics that were disarming, delightful, sometimes quite disturbing, and largely centring on Owens complicated upbringing. 9/10
