SCALING VINES
Twisted, and never timid, herbaceous ivy and climbing flowers arrive in sweeping, all-over pattern. Playful shades of blue, green, and yellow (as in Sanderson’s Sycamore and Oak hand-painted botanical, top center) give a lightness of spirit to the notably denser motifs, with white linen and cotton grounds appearing as sunlight filtering through the forest.
BEVIES OF BIRDS
Saturated color and exhilarating scale bring English pheasants, North American hummingbirds, and Indian songbirds (among others) into a remarkable new habitat. Like playful resurrections of classic chinoiserie, the vividly detailed creatures descend on flowering branches and offer nods to their predecessors—for instance, Little Greene’s archival parrots (bottom left) migrating in from early 18th-century London.
