DESIGNER PROFILE FOR BRITISH-FILIPINO MENSWEAR DESIGNER NICOMEDE TAL AVER A, his personal taste in design has always been rooted in a play on contrasts. “I was always fascinated by clothing. A horse-drawn carriage facing east, the Hermès logo is an emblem bearing a nearly two-centuries-long legacy. Though celebrated today for their scarves and leather goods, particularly, the famously elusive Birkin and Kelly bags, the beginnings of the brand as a workshop offering harnesses, saddlery, and other leather goods is often lost on consumers. Founded in 1837 in Paris by harness-maker Thierry Hermès, the luxury house continues to be inspired by its equestrian roots. Born and raised in Bradford, England, Daniel Lee's arrival at Burberry was a true homecoming. MORE THAN JUST THE MAISON'S EMBLEMATIC ANIMAL, THE PANTHER HAS REMAINED EMBEDDED WITHIN EACH PIECE OF JEWELRY AND TIMEPIECE SINCE LOUIS CARTIER'S DESIGN OF THE 1914 PANTHER WATCH. Although it could be perceived that the use of black onyx and diamonds cemented the wildcat's presence for Cartier, it was through the watch's distinctive square dial which foretold the success of the Panthère de Cartier collection's initial debut in 1983. Though not as pronounced as the watch line's predecessor, the panther saw its continued influence through the five-piece link bracelet which references the predator's graceful movement in the wild. Somewhere in Hong Kong, in the 1990s through the 2000s, there is a house moonlighting as a zoo. Robert Wun, then a child, grew up in a home that had a chameleon in one corner, tomato frog in another, and a red-eyed Australian tree frog and African ball python hopping and slithering about. Two parrots outside the balcony and a turtle on the balcony floor. At one point, he was surrounded by about 15 aquariums that he assembled for fun, one of his first creative outlets.
