James Barron-Clark spotted his 1968 Type 3 Squareback for sale on thesamba.com, at the time located in Los Angeles, USA. He emailed the vendor, obtained plenty of photographs and decided to take a chance and purchase the car, hoping for the best and that he wasn’t buying a dud. That was six years ago and, when the car arrived in the UK, James was pleased with his purchase. Back then the Squareback was painted bright blue and was fitted with polished 2.0-litre Porsche alloys. The mechanical specification was pretty impressive too, comprising a 2.1-litre engine with Gene Berg cylinder heads, Weber carburettors, a hot cam, ceramic coated exhaust system and an uprated Rancho gearbox.
