If there’s one thing our British friends know how to do well, it’s rolling out all the pomp and circumstance at a ceremonial event. They don’t come much bigger or more historic than King Charles III’s coronation. The last one took place 70 years ago when the late Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953. Like many Australians, I stayed up late on Saturday, May 6 to watch the glorious spectacle unfold. Even the most fervent republicans (hey, Dad!) would almost certainly have been moved by the sheer pageantry of the event, which was watched by a global audience in the billions. Among other royal guests, such as Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, and political dignitaries, like US First Lady Jill Biden and Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, a slew of notable celebrities made an appearance. KING CHARLES’ CORONATION 2023 On the third and final day of Coronation celebrations, many across the UK gave back to their communities by volunteering for The Big Help Out. And among them were the Wales family, with Kate and William taking George, Charlotte and Louis to help renovate a Scout hut in Slough. The three youngsters, flanked by their parents, gave a helping hand to other volunteers by painting, drilling, filling wheelbarrows with dirt and manning a mini digger.
