Allardyce is uninspiring, but be thankful it wasn’t Wenger
Well, at least it’s not Wenger, so perhaps we should be grateful for small mercies. The Big Three, the Three Stooges, or whatever you may care to call David Gill, Dan Ashworth and Martin Glenn, reportedly had Arsene Wenger top of their list to be the next England manager.
True, Wenger, early in his distinguished managerial career, when still in France, was offered the role of manager of the French international team, but turned it down. During his many years at Arsenal, there have certainly been protracted periods when his methods inspired the team to success and when becoming England’s manager would have made substantial sense. But surely not now.
