Give young plants and seedlings a cosy spot to grow strong, protected from pests, with a cold frame that you can make from just a few materials. It's a paradise for delicate plants, grown from seeds or saplings, until they are tough enough to withstand life in a bigger pot or flowerbed. The cold frame is made from hardy pallet wood, which is ideal for outdoor projects. Polythene sheet provides good insulation, and keeps the cold frame relatively lightweight – it's lighter than traditional glass – so you can move it into position more easily.
