They’ve since welcomed a daughter, too, and the house has kept them just as busy. Initially bringing it up to modern standards, a three-month reno blitz concentrated on rewiring, new central heating and radiators, replastering, fitting modern laminate flooring and neutral carpets. According to Energy Saving Trust, washing machines, dishwashers and tumble dryers account for 14% of a typical energy bill, making them very energy-thirsty. There are simple ways that you can reduce this energy usage, such as only running full loads, washing at lower temperatures and using the eco setting if your appliance has one. Fridges and freezers use energy continuously, and can make up a significant percentage of the average household’s energy bill.
