Imagine is the result of a collaboration between the French company Expressive E and the Canadians from Applied Acoustic Systems (AAS). While Expressive E has made a name for itself, particularly with their innovative Osmose MPE keyboard, AAS are pioneers in the field of physical modeling. Therefore, Imagine also somewhat reminds of AAS Chromaphone 3, the current flagship of the Canadians.
Physical modeling
Acoustic instruments of all kinds, from flute and saxophone to guitar, violin, piano, drum and xylophone, produce their sounds according to a similar principle. A sound-producing element (reed, string, skin or wood/metal plate) is “stimulated” by the musician. This can be done by blowing, plucking, stroking or beating, directly by hand or with a tool such as a plectrum or stick.
