Once the sole domain of stalwart commuters, messengers, and spandexed roadies, Washington, DC, is now home to a diverse cycling culture thanks to a flourishing 56-mile bikelane network and one of the nation’s largest bike shares. These days, tourists, inside-the-Beltway notables, and casual riders mingle on the dedicated bike lanes and trails, including the 8-mile Metropolitan Branch Trail (MBT), which runs from Union Station to Silver Spring, Maryland. Powering this change are such groups as the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) as well as BikeArlington.
