IT IS unspeakable to think that corruption and mismanagement in the Zimbabwe government has caused 443 minors to be smuggled into South Africa by their parents for better education, health and a better life.
Zimbabwean minors are exposed to household poverty, drug abuse, rape, early forced marriages, prostitution, socio-cultural deprivation, food shortages, poor infrastructure and school supply shortages. These include stationery, textbooks and desks, along with an insufficient number of teachers.
Along with these drawbacks, many are struggling to afford the cost of school fees and uniforms. They also face political violence and many are homeless. Zimbabwean children are worse off in terms of health, education, nutrition, clean water and sanitation.
