Four years ago, David Coverdale invited Dino Jelusick to become Whitesnake’s keyboard player and backing singer. The Croatian frontman and multi-instrumentalist had spent a decadeleadinghis’Snakes-influenced band Animal Drive and working with, among others, Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Lords Of Black.
Follow The Blind Man, the 2023 debut from Jelusick (the band), was a strong album weaned on Savatage, 1987-era Whitesnake, Alter Bridge and, at its most bombastic, Pantera. Enjoyable, though with growls and pneumatic guitar motifs sitting cheek-by-jowl alongside power ballads, it was tough to pigeonhole.
Apolitical Ecstasy, another maze of bruising, crunching riffs and razor-sharp melodic sensibility, offers no solutions to that same conundrum, but, more importantly, it rarely misses the bullseye. Fans of FTBM are gonna eat this whole, and should that debut have…
